Notes: 12/4/04 - Big, and sturdy are two words that come to mind. "Fun", too. A guy would have to be fairly tall, or use a ladder to reach the tie-downs in the wing.
About 130 Stinson V-77's are known to exist today. There are around 100 under U.S. registry, followed by Canada and than a few scattered around the world. In 1962 my father, the late Chris D. Stoltzfus of Coatesville, PA, bought V-77, N88793, s/n 77-38 at auction for $700. It was very clean, with a plush interior, but needed fabric. He soon sold it for $12-1400. |

Notes: I've never seen a cargo door in a Stinson before. It would seem necessary though, for serious freight work with a V-77. Someday I'll get more history on this one.
N69993 had a real oucher in 1964. The pilot failed to level off properly on landing at Linden, CA and collapsed the gear. Man, it hurts to even think about that. Ooooff! |
