Notes: 12/4/04 - Piper bought out Stinson in late 1948 and, according to Stinson expert Larry Westin, built about 325 108-3 Voyagers until 1950. N6515M is apparently one of them although the serial number doesn't quite make sense to me for a Piper-Stinson. Seth Merrill has owned this pretty aircraft for nearly 10-years.
Getting a good photo of a dark airplane on an overcast day is more than I am up to. These aren't nearly what I would like them to be, but - - - ! Maybe I can do better next time. |

Notes: In the later 1950's and early '60's our family sold the Tunnell conversion kits for the Stinson 108 Voyager. We bought government surplus Stinson L-5 motor mounts and exhaust and had them modified by Thurman Alphin, Alphin Aircraft in Hagerstown, MD. Thurman also fabricated the baffles and other parts needed for the conversion. We bought many surplus O-435-1 engines and sold them with the kit for Voyager owners.
This conversion uses the Hartzell controllable pitch prop. You can set the prop anywhere from flat to high pitch, but there is no governor to maintain a constant speed. |

Notes: N6515M appears to be original in many respects including colors, trim and Stinson logo. Nice!
Larry Westin has a lot of Stinson 108 information on his web site. |
