Notes: 11/25/03 - I got my seaplane rating in a PA-12, in New Hampshire in 1963. And I owned a couple of Piper PA-12's over the years and did some instructing in them. They are one fine little airplane - - and this beauty represents them well.
Owned and flown by Mary Build, N2569M is on Edo 2000's and is used for seaplane instruction. Mary has recently become a designated pilot examiner, so she obviously takes seaplanes seriously!
This aircraft was built with a 108-HP, Lycoming O-235. It has been converted to a 160-HP, Lycoming O-320-B2B, which should make it get out of the water like a scared rabbit. (Can rabbits swim?)
Most PA-12's that have the larger engines also have flaps, but 6-9-Mike does not. One characteristic of the PA-12 is that it glides pretty flat. I don't like flat approaches, so my students learned to slip, early on. Certainly the floats add enough drag to take care of the flat-glide issue |
