Notes: July 6, 2004 - "Flagship Georgia" on the ramp at LaGuardia Airport, New York, August 1948. The aircraft was delivered in October 1947 as c/n 43044 and fuselage #84. In December 1953 it was renamed "Flagship Akron".
In late 1966 N90739 was sold to Frederick B. Ayer & Associates. In 1967 it went to Miami Aviation Corp. in Opa Locka, and was used by "The Monkees". Dallas Aero Service was next, and the aircraft was stored at Greater Southwest Airport, Ft. Worth in 1970. One source says that it had been converted to a DC-6F, or freighter.
This aircraft is presently owned by TBM, Inc. of Tulare, CA and is their Air Tanker #68. I believe they have owned it since 1973. You can see a nice photo at www.f4aviation.co.uk/Oldstuff/2004/firebombers/dc6.htm . That is a very interesting door arrangement there. It appears to have a passenger door in front of a cargo door, and in another photo that I saw it does not appear to have a forward cargo door. |
