Notes: 6/16/04 - DC-2-120, NC14275 was built for American Airlines and delivered in November, 1934. It was assigned Douglas C/N 1308 and American's fleet number 75, and was sold to Delta Airlines in February 1940.
The prop spinners indicate that it still had the Hamilton Standard 3E50 constant-speed props at the time of the photo. I'm not sure when the 23E50 Hydromatic, full-feathering props came out but they were much more desirable. Note the de-ice boots on the wings and tail.
This DC-2 was bought by the British Purchasing Company in February 1941, one of about 25 that were purchased for the RAF. It was given RAF registration DG-473 and served with No. 31 Squadron in India. C/N 1308 may at one time have had Indian registration VT-AOV. The aircraft was damaged beyond repair, in flight (possibly a bird strike), 60 miles east of Bangalore, India in June, 1942. |
