Notes: July 3, 2004 - Here's a nice shot of Braniff's DC-6A freighter taking on cargo at Dallas, Love Field. Would they let a cargo handler sit on top of the load like that today? The name on the side is clear, and on the tail it says, "Ship by Braniff". I believe it is the only DC-6A they owned.
N90776 began life in May 1953 as American's "Airfreighter Los Angeles". It bears c/n 43839 and fuselage #368. It was sold to Los Angeles Air Service in August 1960 and to Braniff in September 1960. They operated it until July 1967. My 1968 FAA Registry shows it in their name, but it is reported to have gone to Aerocarga in Mexico soon thereafter where it became XA-SOL. I can find no record of it after that.
From the early-mid 1950's vehicles in the background I gather that the photo was taken around that time. |
