| Notes: 06-21-03 - In the late 1950's and early 1960's, our family purchased hundreds of overhauled, government surplus Wright 2600-20, -29A and -35 engines. The going price then was $300-$600 for an overhauled engine. The -20 was the 1900-HP engine used in the Grumman TBM, and that's what Green Bay had in this B-23. They bought several engines from us, and the crew stopped by once in a while to visit. The B-23 Dragon was also called the UC-67. As the B-18, the B-23 was a bomber version of the DC-3. However the B-23 was much faster with its R2600's instead of the B-18's, R1820's. You can learn more about the B-23 at Wright-Patterson AFB Museum and here. |
