Notes: 9/20/05 - One of the fleet of C-118A, DC-6A aircraft that are operated by Northern Air Cargo, Anchorage, AK. I'm impressed by their operation.
This aircraft was delivered to the USAF, MATS on April 21, 1955. In July, 1976, the Sales Contracting Office, DPDO, Ogden, UT, sold "Douglas C-118A (DC-6), Serial 53-3265", to Cryderman Air Service, Pontiac, MI, for $16,000. Cryderman registered it as N2907F, s/n 44636. In January 1978 he sold it to K & C Inc., Jackson, MI, and the next month it went to Time Aviation Services of Sun Valley, CA, who sold it to Northern Air Cargo, Anchorage, AK in August 1990.
Up to this time, the aircraft has never been certificated. It simply changed hands as a Douglas C-118A. In early '01 Northern Air Cargo "modified aircraft to DC-6A in accordance with Note 5 of aircraft specifications 6A3" and the FAA certificated it as a "DC-6A (C-118A)", showing both c/n 44636 and USAF s/n 53-3265. At that time it had only 21,347-hours total time. Later documents show only the civilian model and s/n. The current FAA registration shows it as DC-6, s/n 53-3265. |

Your aft cargo door on a DC-6A. I wonder how long a list it would be if one were to write up every kind of material that has moved through these doors, both military and civilian! There is also a forward door, as shown on other photos on this site. |
