Notes: "Fragile" comes to mind when I look at this Tiger Moth. I don't think you would want to take it out in the same winds and waves as a typical Cessna! It probably takes some patience in getting it off of the water, too. Still - - many of us would treasure the opportunity to give it a try!
The Tiger Moth was the last in the line of DeHavilland light biplanes. They have a 130-hp, DeHavilland "Gipsy-Major", four-cylinder, inverted in-line engine. The 1938 Jane's gives the cruising speed as 89-mph on floats.
Info at www.landings.com indicates that this aircraft was previously registered as T6741, SAAF2267 and ZS-BCU.
The Seaplane Pilot's Association has graciously granted permission for the non-commercial publication of this photograph on www.flyinghigher.net only. They say: "A rare DeHavilland Tiger Moth example on floats, this one at the Sun 'N Fun, Lake Parker Splash-In, in Florida."
See Sea Planes.org for more on SPA and their beautiful "Water Flying" magazine. You would enjoy the photos and articles, and you might learn about a seaplane fly-in near you! |
