Notes: 12/11/04 - Everts' "Dumbo" is an older C-46, c/n 273 in a production run of nearly 3200. But that's not the whole story.
N7848B started life as C-46A, 43-47201 or 43-47202. (Early FAA documents show it as the former, but that would be c/n 272.) However, in 1957 Riddle Airlines did a complete overhaul on the aircraft and upgraded it to C-46R configuration, including R2800, C-series engines. That moved it up the status ladder quite a bit! |

Notes: N7848B was operated by RANSA, a Venezuelan airline, probably as YV-C-ERF. It was then Panamanian registered by Aerovias Alianza as HP-238 before returning to N7848B in 1968. It has been in Alaska since then, first with Interior Airways, then Fairbanks Air Service, and with the Everts family since 1973. |

History from FAA files: 3/57 Bill of Sale on Curtiss C-46, USAAF No. 43-47201, Mfg. #273, to L & J Trading Company of Miami, FL from Caribbean Aircraft & Supply of Panama, for $70,000; Aircraft registered as N7848B; 9/57 Statement of Conformity by Riddle Airlines, Miami, for L & J Trading. Did aircraft major overhaul, modification to C-46R-5 configuration, installation of R2800-34 (C-series) engines and 33E60-6801A-6 props. Aircraft total time was 1883-hours.
10/59, Sold to Rutas Aereas Nacionales, S.A. (RANSA), a Venezuelan Airline, and deregistered; (Probably became YV-C-ERF there.) 7/68, Carolina Aircraft of Fort Lauderdale registers aircraft, saying former registration was Panamianian HP-238 for Aerovias Alianza, S.A., given N7848B. Aircraft had 13,306-hours total time; 9/68 To Interior Airways, Fairbanks, AK; 5/72 to Fairbanks Air Service, Fairbanks, AK; 6/73 to C. R. Everts, DBA Alaska Rental and Sales.
11/76 to Clifford R. Everts; Installation of P&W R2800-97 (CA18) engines as used in the Convair 240 (USAF T-29). 5/80, Aircraft modified for transporting fuel; 10/2000 to Tatonduk Outfitters, Fairbanks, AK; 337 on extending front cargo door forward 20".
