Notes: 10/22/03 - This 190 belonged to Mennonite evangelist George R. Brunk. Brother George would sometimes stop by when he was in the area. Often it was around 11:30 or so - - and he would be invited for lunch. He was a special friend. It was under his preaching in a tent in about 1952 that I made the decision to become a Christian.
The Cessna 190 differed from the 195 only in having a Continental W670-23 engine instead of the 195’s, Jacobs R755 series of 245, 275 or 300-hp. The -23 is the only ‘670 that will take a constant speed prop.* It is 240-HP versus 220-hp for the ‘670’s used on the Stearman, many Wacos, PT-23 and others. The crankshaft and crankcase are unique to the -23 and are scarce as hen’s teeth, as we say. Many 190’s have been converted to 195’s for that reason. They typically have a Hamilton Standard 2B20-6135A-15 propeller.
*The 240-hp, W-670-M as used on some Waco aircraft has a valve for a two-position prop, but does not have a governor. |
