Notes: 8/12/04 - The sun was setting against this gorgeous little "Super Chief", about 10:00 p.m. on a July, Alaskan evening. It was a photo waiting to be taken.
According to Juptner's U.S. Civil Aircraft series, Aeronca Aircraft Corp. of Middletown, Ohio built 276, 11BC Super Chief's from 1948-51. This one would have been toward the end of production.
The 11CC is roomier than the 11AC and BC and a bit more deluxe. The last ones were reduced to $2475 to help stimulate sales. Wow! Juptner says that this is the only Chief that Aeronca officially called the Super Chief.
The Continental C-85-8 series does not have starter and generator drives, but many of these aircraft have been modified with the -12 engines, or the C-90 or O-200 which do. From what I read, the 11CC was one sweet little airplane. |
